Toronto ON – Vision Newspaper, the double award-winning Jamaican Diaspora publication, proudly announces the return of its acclaimed Top Ten Reggae Countdown show later this month. Known for its vibrant monthly diaspora publication and comprehensive news website, Vision Newspaper has captivated audiences since launching the show in 2013 with the late Jamaican actor and recording artist Louie “Ox” Rankin as its inaugural host. The program originally aired on the West Indian Network (WIN HD) on cable TV in Canada.
Host Catman and Executive Producer Lucci Gabana
“Louie Rankin was an exceptional host. He instantly gave our show an edge with his immense following from iconic roles in Belly and Shottas. If he were still with us, he would undoubtedly be hosting another season,” said Executive Producer Lucci Gabana.
Following Rankin’s memorable tenure, the spotlight turned to UK Reggae radio presenter Catman, who joined fresh off his BEFFTA award as the top radio presenter in England. Catman’s unique fashion sense and deep connections in the Reggae world brought an influx of emerging artists to the show, solidifying its reputation as a premier platform for new talent worldwide.
“I don’t play top 10 Reggae artists on my radio shows, and I won’t be interviewing them for the Countdown show either,” Catman emphasized. “Anyone can list the top hits, but few are showcasing fresh, new talent. I play sweet reggae music from talented artists, no matter where they’re from.”
Catman was later joined by Jamaican Canadian rapper and music producer Lucci Gabana. Known for collaborations with Capleton, Gyptian, Vybz Kartel, and D’Angel, Lucci Gabana brought a dynamic energy to the show, interviewing local Toronto reggae/dancehall artists, while Catman focused on UK talent.
In the upcoming season, currently in production, Lucci Gabana and Catman plan to spotlight local talent within the diaspora and journey to Jamaica to feature the island’s hottest rising stars.
Vision Newspaper’s Top Ten Reggae Countdown remains the only reggae music video program on TV in Canada, having aired on major networks like Global TV, CTV, CHEX, and ethnic media outlets like WINHD and FEVA TV.
Upcoming artists seeking a spotlight on the program or businesses aiming to reach the Jamaican Diaspora through advertisements are encouraged to contact Vision Newspaper at info@visionnewspaper.ca.
