The Next Chapter Literacy Festival Returns to Scarborough Town Centre Weekend

Scarborough, ON — The Reading Partnership is bringing back its celebrated community event, The Next Chapter Festival, on Saturday, October 4, 2025, at Scarborough Town Centre (STC). The free, family-friendly festival will run from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., offering a full day of books, music, and art for children and adults alike.

The festival debuted in 2024, drawing more than 1,500 attendees and distributing over 2,600 free books to local families. Organizers say the 2025 edition will build on that success, with live readings from local authors, musical performances, book giveaways, and interactive activities designed to celebrate literacy and storytelling across cultures.

Supporting Literacy in Underserved Communities

The Reading Partnership, the Scarborough-based registered charity behind the festival, has been working for over a decade to improve literacy outcomes for children ages 0–12. Serving more than 2,000 families annually, the organization develops inclusive and evidence-informed programs to help young readers build the skills and confidence to learn independently.

With a focus on underrepresented and racialized communities, the charity emphasizes the role of literacy in fostering both personal growth and community empowerment. Its vision is that every child, regardless of background, should have access to the tools needed to positively impact their world.
