Toronto, ON – Toronto’s artistic community is abuzz with excitement as The Greenprint Network launches its innovative new series, Print Sessions. This digital content and live music initiative is designed to unite the realms of music and literature, celebrating their deep-rooted connection and challenging stereotypes about musicians and their intellectual pursuits.
Awarded the 2024 City of Toronto Building Arts Through Community Award, The Greenprint Network is renowned for its commitment to fostering artistic collaboration and growth. Through events, mentorship, and content creation, the collective has made significant strides in enriching Toronto’s cultural landscape. With Print Sessions, they aim to highlight the literary interests of renowned local musicians and showcase the synergy between these two creative fields.

“Print Sessions is all about merging collaboration with creativity,” explains Kibra, the Executive Director of The Greenprint Network. Known both for her role as curator and as a buzzing R&B artist, Kibra emphasizes the series’ goal: to illuminate the longstanding bond between music and literature. “This series will remind audiences of how music and literature have always been intertwined. By bringing them together, we enhance the experience of both.”
The series partners with A Different Booklist, a beloved Toronto indie bookstore, to record live music sessions featuring a diverse array of local talent. Artists such as Nigerian-Canadian rapper Akintoye, Juno Award-winning Afro-fusion artist Tome, and rising stars like Liz Lokre and Sydanie will take part in Print Sessions. Each episode will feature a live performance followed by a reading from a book that has inspired the artist, leading to discussions about their literary influences.
Kibra shares her personal connection to the project: “Reading has always been a favorite pastime of mine. It has significantly influenced my poetry and songwriting. Despite feeling a divide between my academic interests and music career earlier on, I now see the value in continuously feeding the mind. This series is a testament to how literature can inspire creativity and help manage artistic challenges.”
The Print Sessions series culminates with a free live concert on August 22nd at 7 PM at York Woods Theatre. The event will highlight eight performers with strong ties to the Jane and Finch community, including Wave Montega and Cocanina. This showcase aims to celebrate the rich artistic talent emerging from a neighborhood often unfairly stigmatized.
