President William Ruto Honours AfDB President Akinwumi Adesina with Kenya’s Highest Award

Nairobi, Kenya – Kenya’s President, Dr. William Samoei Ruto, has conferred the country’s highest civilian honour, the Chief of the Order of the Golden Heart (C.G.H.), on African Development Bank (AfDB) Group President Dr. Akinwumi Adesina. The award, presented at State House, Nairobi, recognizes Adesina’s contributions to Kenya’s economic growth and Africa’s development.

President Ruto praised the AfDB’s role in accelerating universal electricity access, strengthening food security, promoting infrastructure development, and deepening regional integration. He acknowledged the Bank’s visionary leadership, particularly under Dr. Adesina, in unlocking Kenya’s potential and improving lives across the continent.

“The African Development Bank has been at the center of our sustainable economic growth,” Ruto stated. “The Bank has not only advanced key sectors but has also facilitated deeper regional integration, positioning Africa for greater prosperity.”

Dr. Adesina, who has led the AfDB since 2015, has championed initiatives aimed at transforming Africa’s economy, particularly through investments in energy, agriculture, and infrastructure. Under his leadership, the AfDB has supported key projects in Kenya, including the expansion of electricity access and advancements in agricultural productivity.

The Chief of the Order of the Golden Heart (C.G.H.) is Kenya’s highest state honour, traditionally reserved for individuals who have made significant contributions to the country’s progress. By bestowing this recognition upon Dr. Adesina, Kenya reaffirms its appreciation for the AfDB’s commitment to fostering economic development across Africa.
