Nominations Open for Mississauga’s 2025 Black Excellence Awards

MISSISSAUGA – Starting today, Mississauga residents can nominate deserving individuals for the 2025 Black Excellence Awards. Presented in partnership with the Black Caucus Alliance, these awards celebrate the achievements and contributions of Black residents and volunteers in the community. Nominations will be accepted until February 18.

The awards recognize excellence across nine categories:

• Youth: For individuals aged 15 to 24 who have demonstrated exemplary volunteerism and community involvement over at least two consecutive years.
• Business: Honouring entrepreneurial success, innovation, and a commitment to fairness and equality.
• Community Service: Highlighting significant contributions to community enrichment and meaningful collaborations.
• Education: Recognizing individuals who actively contribute to student or community well-being through education and extracurricular involvement.
• Health Services: Celebrating leadership in promoting physical and mental well-being within Black communities, particularly in healthcare.
• Arts and Culture: Acknowledging contributions to community-engaged art and cultural expression in Mississauga.
• Sports: Recognizing impactful contributions to sports, either as an athlete or official, at the community or national level.
• Hospitality and Food Services: Celebrating excellence in African-Caribbean food, drink, and hospitality, with an emphasis on customer service, sustainability, and community involvement.
• Legacy – Lifetime Achievement: The highest honour, bestowed on individuals who have contributed to the Black community for 15 years or more, improving lives and bringing recognition to Mississauga.

Eligibility and How to Nominate

Nominees must live or work in Mississauga, identify as Black, and exemplify volunteerism, civic engagement, and leadership. Nominations require the nominee’s full name (including preferred pronouns and phonetic pronunciation), the chosen category, and a brief explanation of why the individual deserves recognition.

Submissions can be sent via email to BlackExcellenceAwards@mississauga.ca. Only completed nomination forms will be evaluated.

Awards Ceremony

Eligible nominees will be invited to an awards ceremony in honour of Black History Month. The event will take place at Mississauga City Hall on Friday, February 28, at 7 p.m., celebrating the exceptional contributions of the city’s Black community members.
