Namibian President Nandi-Ndaitwah Embarks on Working Visit to Mozambique to Strengthen Bilateral Ties

MAPUTO, Mozambique — Namibian President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah arrived in Maputo on Monday, May 19, 2025, for a one-day working visit aimed at bolstering bilateral cooperation between Namibia and Mozambique. This visit underscores the commitment of both nations to deepen ties in trade, education, youth development, and regional peace and security.

Upon arrival, President Nandi-Ndaitwah was received by Mozambique’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Maria Manuela Lucas. The Namibian head of state is scheduled to hold bilateral talks with Mozambican President Daniel Chapo. Discussions are expected to focus on transforming the strong political and diplomatic relations into tangible economic partnerships that can enhance the livelihoods of citizens in both countries.

As part of her itinerary, President Nandi-Ndaitwah will also visit the Maputo Thermal Power Plant, highlighting Namibia’s interest in energy cooperation and infrastructure development within the Southern African region .

This visit to Mozambique follows President Nandi-Ndaitwah’s recent working visits to Zambia and Botswana, reflecting Namibia’s proactive engagement with neighboring countries to foster regional integration and cooperation within the Southern African Development Community (SADC) framework .

President Nandi-Ndaitwah, who made history as Namibia’s first female president in March 2025, has emphasized the importance of regional partnerships in achieving sustainable development goals and ensuring peace and stability in the region.

The outcomes of this visit are anticipated to further strengthen the longstanding relationship between Namibia and Mozambique, paving the way for collaborative initiatives that benefit both nations.
