Mye Laurell Honors Diana Ross with Reggae Cover of It’s My House

Kingston, Jamaica — Reggae recording artiste and philanthropist Laurell Nurse, known to fans as Mye Laurell, has released her latest single — a reggae cover of Diana Ross’s 1979 classic It’s My House. The track was produced by veteran singer and producer Richie Stephens under his Pot of Gold production label.
The single was officially released in August, and has already begun attracting attention for its sultry reinterpretation of Ross’s timeless sound.
Inspired by Diana Ross’s Style
Interestingly, the song was not Mye Laurell’s first choice. She admitted she was unfamiliar with Ross’s original version until Stephens introduced her to it.
“He said my speaking voice reminded him of Diana Ross and he knew I could do it justice. When I actually heard it, I immediately fell in love with the style and knew it fit my personality very well,” Mye Laurell explained.
Known for her soulful yet understated vocal delivery, Mye Laurell found a natural connection with Ross’s sophisticated and light-spoken style.
A Return to Music
This is not the first time Mye Laurell has reimagined a classic. In 2016, she covered Gregory Isaacs’s Night Nurse, adding her own flavor to one of reggae’s beloved tracks.
“Cover versions pay homage to great tracks from eras past so I definitely love covering great music from any genre,” she said. “Giving a reggae cover to a pop song is even more important because you are adding that Caribbean element and it has to be done with care.”
After taking a break from recording to focus on QORIHC, her female-centered award ceremony set to return in 2026, Mye Laurell says working with Jamaican songstress Gem Myers reignited her passion for performing. This led her to reconnect with Stephens to produce new material.
A Message of Self-Worth
The new track, which blends a mature outlook with youthful vibrancy, highlights themes of personal space, respect, and boundaries, while also sending a subliminal message of self-love and self-worth.
It’s My House is also the first release from the upcoming Pot of Gold Riddim project, which will feature additional artistes later this year.
Mye Laurell has already filmed visuals for the single and is actively promoting the track in Jamaica before traveling to New York for further promotional engagements.
