Kingston, Jamaica – Rising dancehall artist Julani “Aktive” Hamilton is determined to make a positive impact in his Arnett Gardens community, known locally as “Jungle.” Despite its reputation for crime and violence, Aktive is using his talent to inspire the youth, demonstrating that music can serve as a powerful tool for change.
Aktive, whose parents have both passed away, has found a father figure in his producer, Marlon Graham, the owner of MG Promotion LLC. Graham has played a pivotal role in shaping Aktive’s career and personal growth. In an exclusive interview with Vision Caribbean, Graham revealed that he is currently promoting two of Aktive’s tracks: “Lean Back Wid It” and “Don’t Give Up,” both released under the MG Promotion LLC label.
“’Lean Back Wid It’ is all about having a good time, with a strong focus on dancing,” Graham explained. “We want people to enjoy themselves, even though there are challenges in life. Dancing helps people stay healthy and maintain a positive mindset.”
The second track, “Don’t Give Up,” carries a more motivational tone. Graham said he had specifically invited Aktive to write this song after sending him the riddim. The track encourages listeners to persevere despite the obstacles they face.
Aktive’s musical journey began in 2021 when Graham’s nephew sent him a video of Aktive performing a track dedicated to girls. Impressed by his flow and potential, Graham decided to meet with the young artist. “Meeting Aktive brought a positive change in his life,” Graham shared. “I saw hope and success in his energy, and his self-confidence was evident.”
Graham also opened up about the personal bond he formed with Aktive, especially after learning about the artist’s tragic loss of both parents. “His story touched me deeply,” Graham said. “I knew I had to step in as a father figure, helping him financially and emotionally. This support has been a key factor in Aktive’s continued growth.”
Since then, Aktive has gone on to record over ten songs, including popular tracks like “Rock N Move,” “Wata Wata,” “Senorita,” and “Airforce.” He was also featured in the MG Promotion LLC medley video “Rocky Road,” with his contribution focusing on the loss of a close friend.
Looking forward, Aktive is optimistic about his future in the music industry. He is confident that his distinctive lyrics and unique style will earn him spots on several local shows in 2025.
For now, Aktive remains focused on inspiring others in his community, proving that despite adversity, success and hope are within reach for those willing to work for it.
