JLP Leaders Join Nurses in Protest Against Violence Toward Women

KINGSTON, JAMAICA – Top government officials from the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) joined nurses in downtown Kingston today to protest violence against women, following a recent attack on a healthcare worker.

Among those in attendance were Health Minister Dr. Christopher Tufton, Minister of Gender Affairs Olivia “Babsy” Grange, State Minister for National Security Juliet Cuthbert-Flynn, and Government Senator Dr. Saphire Longmore. The leaders stood in solidarity with nurses and healthcare professionals demanding stronger protections for women and condemning all forms of violence.

“We stand with our nurses and all women in Jamaica. Violence should not be tolerated,” the JLP stated in an official post shared on X (formerly Twitter).

The party strongly condemned the attack on a healthcare worker and affirmed its commitment to combating gender-based violence through legislative and policy efforts.

“We are committed to doing more to advocate against violence against women and to pursue policy initiatives to reduce and eliminate the scourge,” the JLP added.

The protest underscores growing national concern over violence against women and healthcare professionals and calls for renewed action at both community and government levels.
