Kingston, Jamaica – The Jamaican government is embarking on a bold initiative to overhaul its governance framework and eliminate bureaucratic inefficiencies, a move spearheaded by newly appointed Minister, Senator the Honorable Audrey Marks. The announcement was made by Prime Minister Andrew Holness, who emphasized the need for a more agile and innovation-driven public sector to foster national growth.
Minister Marks will lead a comprehensive review of Jamaica’s governmental systems and processes, with the aim of reducing bureaucratic delays, enhancing service delivery, and making it easier to do business in the country. The reform is expected to address long-standing issues such as excessive paperwork, unresponsive government offices, and inefficient public services that many Jamaicans encounter daily.
“For many Jamaicans, the frustrations of bureaucracy are most evident in everyday encounters, whether it’s the unresponsive tax offices, the difficulty of reaching a government entity by phone, or the poor customer service at public offices,” Holness stated on social media. “We are fixing that!”
Our next level of success requires greater government efficiency.

As part of the initiative, Minister Marks will appoint a diverse advisory team composed of public sector stakeholders to identify key areas for reform. The restructuring effort aims to streamline government operations, improve response times, and remove administrative roadblocks that hinder both citizens and businesses.
Holness underscored that this reform is a critical step toward Jamaica’s next level of economic success. “Our stringent fiscal policies have successfully curbed excessive government spending by reducing public debt, restoring macroeconomic stability, and strengthening accountability. Minister Marks will be responsible for streamlining these processes to enhance efficiency and drive sustainable economic development,” he noted.
The Jamaican government’s commitment to restructuring aims to not only improve the daily lives of its citizens but also create a more investment-friendly climate, fostering entrepreneurship and facilitating major infrastructure projects. As the country continues to pivot towards a more growth-oriented economy, the government hopes that these changes will contribute to long-term national development.
