Kingston, Jamaica – Jamaica’s Minister of Justice, Delroy Chuck, recently hosted Hon. Greg Fergus, Speaker of the House of Commons of Canada, for a courtesy visit that highlighted Jamaica’s ongoing efforts in justice reform and legal accessibility.
During his visit, Fergus was given a tour of the Legal Aid mobile Justice units, an initiative supported by the Canada-Jamaica Partnership. These mobile units are designed to bring essential legal services to underserved communities, ensuring that more Jamaicans have access to legal representation and justice services.

Discussions between the two officials focused on Jamaica’s justice system and Alternative Justice Services, which aim to provide conflict resolution through mediation and restorative justice approaches. The visit underscored the strong bilateral ties between Canada and Jamaica in strengthening legal frameworks and improving public access to justice.
The partnership with Canada has been instrumental in supporting justice initiatives in Jamaica, Minister Chuck has previously stated in discussions on legal aid expansion. The mobile justice units are seen as a key component of ensuring that individuals in remote and marginalized areas receive the legal assistance they need.
The visit reflects ongoing efforts to modernize Jamaica’s justice system while reinforcing Canada’s commitment to supporting justice initiatives in the Caribbean region.
As both countries continue to collaborate, there is hope that further investments and knowledge-sharing will enhance alternative justice methods and legal aid accessibility, ensuring fair and efficient legal processes for all Jamaicans.
