Holness Highlights JLP’s Record on Jobs, Debt, and Development Ahead of 2025 Election
Written by Cat Radio UK on May 22, 2025
KINGSTON, JAMAICA – Prime Minister Andrew Holness has intensified his public messaging with a series of posts underscoring the Jamaica Labour Party’s (JLP) record on employment, economic management, and infrastructure development — widely seen as a signal that the country is entering pre-election mode ahead of the next general vote, due by the end of 2025.
In a sequence of statements shared via X (formerly Twitter), Holness called on Jamaicans to weigh track record over rhetoric when making decisions about the nation’s future.
“Promises are common. But performance is proof,” the Prime Minister said, urging voters to consider who has “invested in education, housing, and healthcare” and “built real infrastructure.”
In life, especially when faced with major decisions about your future, the most reliable guide is not emotion or trend, it’s the track record.

Job Creation: Record Low Unemployment
Holness highlighted Jamaica’s economic turnaround since 2015, citing a dramatic drop in the national unemployment rate from 13.5% to a historic low of 3.7%. Youth unemployment, once near 30%, has also seen marked improvements.
“If you’re looking for work in Jamaica, you have a 97% chance of being employed,” Holness stated. “The Jamaica you live in today is undeniably better at creating jobs than it was 10 years ago.”
Debt Reduction and Economic Stewardship
The Prime Minister also pointed to significant progress on debt reduction under the JLP administration, noting that Jamaica’s national debt burden has been cut by nearly half since the party took office.
“If you are looking for a government that can manage the economy effectively… your decision is clear,” Holness said, positioning the JLP as the party of fiscal discipline and long-term economic vision.
Campaign Messaging Ahead of General Election
With Jamaica’s next general election constitutionally required by September 2025, Holness’s messaging reflects the early framing of the campaign. Without formally announcing a date, the Prime Minister is already emphasizing performance metrics in employment, infrastructure, and financial governance — areas the JLP is expected to showcase during the election season.
Observers believe the shift in tone signals the unofficial launch of campaign engagement, as Holness appeals to voters with evidence of tangible progress over the past decade.
