Dancehall star Erup, whose real name is Kevin Saunders, has made a powerful comeback to the music scene with his latest single, “I’m Sorry.” Known for popular tracks like “Click Mi Finger” and “Gal A Run Dem Head,” Erup is once again grabbing the spotlight with this heartfelt song, which was released on August 23. Produced by Andre Villa from Onscope Records, “I’m Sorry” is featured on the Emotions Riddim compilation titled Jamaica Meets Afrobeat, blending authentic R&B vibes with an extraordinary Afrobeat rhythm.
The song’s unique fusion is resonating with audiences, propelling Erup back to the forefront of dancehall. Reflecting on the creative process behind “I’m Sorry,” Erup revealed that the track was originally written for another artist. “I wrote that song for someone else to sing. They was on some foolishness so when I got the beat from Andre Villa I just sing it and it fit it perfectly,” said the Rockfort native.
Erup’s return has brought a refreshing touch to his style, incorporating a deep R&B influence, which he attributes to his background. “I’ve been writing these type of songs from mi young suh mi know exactly what to say on these songs because it’s based on real life relationships,” he explained, emphasizing the song’s personal nature.
The singer is not only generating buzz with “I’m Sorry” but also with his new album, Frequency, which dropped on October 11. The 14-track album features fresh tunes like “Weh We Do,” produced in collaboration between Do Di Rite Thing Entertainment and Onscope Records.
Promotion efforts for Frequency are in full gear, with plans for Erup to embark on a U.S. tour soon, bringing his new music directly to fans. As Erup continues to blend dancehall with elements of R&B and Afrobeat, his latest releases signal a dynamic evolution in his career, capturing both long-time supporters and new listeners alike.
