KINGSTON, Jamaica — Rising dancehall and reggae recording artiste El Shaddai, also known as Dolly Don, is making waves with her new single “Priceless,” a powerful anthem of self-worth, empowerment, and inner strength set for release on May 24.
Produced and engineered by Mario Cheef, Priceless combines dancehall energy with unapologetic lyricism. It’s a track that encourages women—and all listeners—to stand firm in their value and never settle.
“Priceless was inspired by moments when I’ve felt underestimated or taken for granted—whether in love, business, or life in general,” said El Shaddai. “It’s a bold statement that my worth can’t be measured or bought. It’s about self-love, inner strength, and owning your power.”
Born Shada Barrett, the artist spent her early years between Tivoli Gardens and Jungle in Kingston before relocating to Waterford in Portmore, the same community once home to the Portmore Gaza movement. Now based in Hartford, Connecticut, El Shaddai is charting her own path with music that resonates both locally and globally.
Already recognized for songs like Tip and Repeat featuring MC Nuffy, El Shaddai is gearing up to release a collaboration with Lisa Hyper titled Drunk Off Love (DOL) on June 4. The track marks a full-circle moment, given El Shaddai’s childhood connection to the Gaza legacy through her mother, Anngodbless, who once introduced her to Vybz Kartel.
“Lisa Hyper gravitated to Drunk Off Love right away. She came to the studio at 1:00 a.m. and recorded her verse on the spot—it was pure vibes,” she shared.
In addition to her musical accolades, El Shaddai has participated in the BET Awards Experience in Los Angeles for three consecutive years and was recognized at the African Achievements Awards alongside Mr. Davies Chirwa of Channel A TV. She has also shared stages with icons like Beres Hammond, Baby Cham, and Valiant.
With Priceless, El Shaddai hopes to not only turn up parties and playlists, but also to inspire.
“My ultimate hope is that Priceless inspires people—especially women—to recognize their worth and stop settling,” she said. “Confidence, value, and self-respect are non-negotiable.”
