Canada’s First R&B-Only Festival Debuts in St. Catharines This Weekend
Written by Cat Radio UK on September 4, 2025
Toronto, ON — This weekend marks a milestone in Canadian music history as the SomeKinda R&B Festival, the country’s first festival fully dedicated to rhythm and blues, launches at Montebello Park in St. Catharines. Running August 30–31, the festival spans two dynamic days—celebrating Black artistry, community, and cultural vibrancy.
Presented by Good Folkes Company, No Boundaries, and 925 Agency, SomeKinda positions R&B at the center of Canada’s live music landscape. As Immigration to Niagara peaks and the Labour Day weekend approaches, the festival offers both local residents and GTA visitors a soul-stirring weekend retreat.
A Two-Day R&B Immersion
Day 1 (August 30) welcomes R&B excellence with GRAMMY Award–winning Muni Long headlining alongside platinum artist Jacquees, plus Canadian voices Aqyila, Avenoir, TheHonestGuy, and emerging talent Arianna Reid.
Day 2 (August 31) presents genre-defying powerhouses Mariah the Scientist and Kiana Ledé, matched with performances by FRVRFRIDAY, EB3N, Benita, and more.
Two stages pulse with curated sounds, featuring DJs like Somebody Anybody, DJ Killa Kels, and Tay-Jean, ensuring music flows from 1 p.m. to 11 p.m. each day.
A Labor Day Weekend “Staycation” with Soul
Dubbed the “R&B Labour Day staycation,” the festival blends live performances with local culture, wine trails, culinary experiences, and a celebration of Black artistry and community in the Niagara Region.
St. Catharines’ tourism hub mirrors this vibrancy—inviting visitors to enjoy R&B music while exploring local heritage, wineries, and downtown amenities.
Building a Home for R&B
SomeKinda aims to solidify R&B’s place in Canada’s festival calendar. Its founders emphasize community reinvestment and positioning Black artistic expression at the forefront of cultural programming.
“SomeKinda is more than a festival—it’s a cultural statement. It gives world-class American and Canadian R&B the platform it deserves,” say the organizers.
