Kingston, Jamaica – Born Kurt McFarlane, Behbeh Paparazzi is a man of many talents: deejay, songwriter, record producer, videographer, and even a business promoter in England. His journey through music and entrepreneurship is a testament to his versatility and passion for the arts.
Behbeh spent his early years in Farm Heights, Montego Bay, Jamaica, and was often seen in “Gully,” a vibrant community in the same area. This hub of creativity attracted entertainers like Baby Wayne and Beenie Man.
“I used to be in the ‘Gully.’ This is where artistes like Baby Wayne and Beenie Man would sometimes hang out,” Behbeh recalls.
Montego Bay, often called MoBay, is a fertile breeding ground for talent, producing stars such as Tommy Lee Sparta, Teejay, Jah Cure, Rygin King, Shaneil Muir, and Squash. Behbeh, too, found his footing in this vibrant scene, honing his skills and riding riddims to make a name for himself.
“I loved music from school days. I started playing the piano because I loved the sound of instruments,” Behbeh shares.
A regular churchgoer with his grandmother, he was baptized and developed a strong belief in the Almighty. He was also a member of Seba United Football Club (now Montego Bay United Football Club), where he interacted with Rastafarian players, further deepening his admiration for the teachings of Marcus Garvey.
Despite his passion for music, Behbeh’s big break came after he migrated to the United Kingdom. There, he connected with aspiring musicians, leading to an unexpected opportunity.
“It was a jingle I did for Champions in Action Immortal Sound that led to other gigs played on radio stations. Before I knew it, people everywhere wanted me to promote their businesses,” he recalls.
With catchy phrases and a distinct flow, Behbeh gained widespread recognition. This success eventually landed him a feature in a song introduction and full credit for “Turn Up the Swagger,” released under his MoBay Records imprint, shared with his brother Vernon Gray.
Behbeh has since released four projects, including the “Nuh Sponge Riddim,” featuring 14 high-powered tracks like Chino’s “Nah Beg” and Behbeh’s “Turn Up the Swagger.” Another standout is “A We Say Dancehall,” a four-track masterpiece featuring Singer J’s “Bad Mind” and Behbeh’s own “Long Chain.”
