Written by Cat Radio UK on October 7, 2025
Toronto, ON — After being awarded the Order of Ontario, acclaimed Canadian spoken word artist, author, and community builder Dwayne Morgan is returning to the stage this fall for a five-show performance series across Toronto. The shows — running November 5, 12, 19, 22, and 26 — mark Morgan’s first major public performances since receiving Ontario’s highest honour earlier this year.
Each performance celebrates Morgan’s three-decade career as a poet, performer, and advocate for Black Canadian artistry, while continuing his lifelong mission to elevate new voices and build community through the arts.
A Visionary Artist with Global Reach
Dwayne Morgan began his career in 1993 and founded Up From The Roots Entertainment the following year to support and showcase African Canadian and urban-influenced artists. Over the past 30 years, Morgan has built an international following, performing across Canada, the United States, Jamaica, Ghana, Uganda, Turkey, England, France, Belgium, Germany, Norway, and beyond.
His impact has earned him numerous accolades including the African Canadian Achievement Award, the Harry Jerome Award for Excellence in the Arts, and induction into the Scarborough Walk of Fame. Shifter Magazine also recognized him among its list of outstanding Black men in Canada.
Morgan has performed for Barack Obama, former Governor General Michaëlle Jean, and shared stages with icons such as Alicia Keys and Russell Peters. He even performed at Super Bowl 46 and recorded with Canadian artists including Drake.
