The event commemorated the 59th anniversary of Guyana’s independence, bringing together residents to honor the nation’s journey and the vibrant Guyanese community in Brampton.

The evening featured a flag-raising ceremony, cultural performances, and a community reception, reflecting the rich heritage and contributions of Guyanese Canadians. The City expressed gratitude to all attendees for joining the celebration and supporting the recognition of Guyana’s independence.

According to the 2021 Canadian census, 13.1% of Brampton’s population identifies as Black, with many tracing their roots to Caribbean nations like Guyana.
