ROSEAU, Dominica – Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit met this week with Mrs. Karin Sullivan, Chargé d’Affaires of the U.S. Embassy to Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean, to strengthen bilateral cooperation between Dominica and the United States in disaster preparedness and national security.
The meeting, held on Tuesday, was also attended by Hon. Rayburn Blackmoore, Dominica’s Minister for National Security and Legal Affairs. Mrs. Sullivan was accompanied by Ms. J. Brett Hernandez, U.S. Country Officer, and other officials from the U.S. Embassy in Bridgetown.
“Dominica looks forward to continued collaboration with the United States in areas of disaster preparedness and national security,” Prime Minister Skerrit said following the meeting.

During her official visit to Dominica, Mrs. Sullivan is scheduled to take part in several key ceremonies:
-
The handover of the U.S. Southern Command-supported Emergency Operations Centre Annex at the Office of Disaster Management in Jimmit
-
The handover of the Satellite Emergency Operations Centre and Warehouse in Portsmouth
-
The formal announcement of U.S. funding for a new US$2 million fire and ambulance service station in La Plaine
These projects are part of a broader effort by the United States to support regional resilience and strengthen critical emergency response infrastructure in the Eastern Caribbean.
The government of Dominica continues to emphasize regional partnerships as a pillar of its national security and disaster risk reduction strategy, especially as the country prepares for an increasingly intense hurricane season.
