NAIROBI, Kenya — On May 21, 2025, President William Ruto officially bid farewell to Algeria’s Ambassador to Kenya, Boumedine Mahi, marking the conclusion of his diplomatic tenure in the country. The ceremony underscored the enduring and multifaceted relationship between Kenya and Algeria, which spans over six decades.

During his tenure, Ambassador Mahi played a pivotal role in enhancing bilateral cooperation across various sectors, including agriculture, education, peacebuilding, and multilateral diplomacy. President Ruto commended the ambassador for his unwavering commitment to strengthening ties between the two nations.

“Kenya and Algeria have enduring historic, diplomatic and trade relations that have been of mutual benefit to our two nations and peoples,” President Ruto stated. “Officials from our two countries meet and work together at various fora, including at the United Nations and the African Union, advancing agriculture, peace and multilateralism.”

The collaboration between Kenya and Algeria is set to deepen further, with plans underway to sign a Joint Commission Cooperation (JCC) agreement. This initiative aims to expand trade engagements through the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) frameworks, focusing on sectors such as agriculture, defense, education, and energy.

Ambassador Mahi’s departure signifies the continuation of a diplomatic legacy rooted in partnership and mutual respect. Both countries have pledged to build upon the strong foundation laid during his tenure, exploring new avenues for cooperation and development.
