Andrew Holness Calls for Urgent Action to Align National Vision with UN Sustainable Development Goals

Kingston, Jamaica — In a recent address, Prime Minister Andrew Holness emphasized the crucial link between Jamaica’s Vision 2030 Agenda and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). He stated that an impressive 98% of the SDGs align with Jamaica’s national objectives, highlighting the importance of these global targets in shaping the country’s future.

Holness noted that the United Nations has indicated that many member countries are falling behind in meeting the SDGs, which poses significant challenges for sustainable development worldwide. He stressed the responsibility of Jamaica to advocate for increased financing and immediate action to bring these goals back on track.

The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals are 98% aligned to our National Vision 2030 Agenda.

“We have a responsibility to push for financing and urgent, immediate, and sustained action not only to get these goals back on track but to ensure there is no further disruption in their implementation,” Holness remarked during his address.

He further underscored the need for a renewed commitment to the SDGs, asserting that achieving the objectives set at both the national and UN levels requires a collective effort. “If we are to achieve the objectives we have set, both at the national and UN levels, we must recommit and redouble our efforts,” he added.

Holness’s remarks come as Jamaica continues to strive toward its Vision 2030 goals, which aim to create a prosperous and sustainable society. The Prime Minister’s call to action serves as a reminder of the importance of international cooperation and local initiatives in realizing a better future for all Jamaicans.
