Canada’s Minister of International Development to Travel to Grenada for CARICOM Meeting and Visit Sites Impacted by Hurricane Beryl

Ottawa, ON — Canada’s Minister of International Development, the Honourable Ahmed Hussen, will visit Grenada from July 28 to July 30, 2024, to attend the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) 47th Heads of Government Meeting. This marks Minister Hussen’s first official trip to Grenada, reflecting the strengthening ties between Canada and the Caribbean region.
During his visit, Minister Hussen will conduct a site visit to the Gouyave Fish Processing Facility on Monday, July 29, at 2:15 p.m. This facility is a Canada-funded project under COMPETE Caribbean, developed in collaboration with the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB). The project aims to boost local economic growth and enhance food security by improving fish processing infrastructure in Grenada.
Following the tour of the Gouyave Fish Processing Facility, Minister Hussen will visit St. Patrick’s Parish to observe the impact of Hurricane Beryl. Accompanied by representatives from Grenada’s Ministry of Agriculture, the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), and the Red Cross, he will assess the damage and discuss recovery efforts with local officials.
Her Excellency, Lilian Chatterjee, High Commissioner of Canada, will join Minister Hussen throughout his inaugural visit to Grenada, participating in the site visits and underscoring the collaborative efforts between Canada and Grenada in development and disaster recovery.
Minister Hussen’s visit highlights Canada’s commitment to supporting sustainable development and disaster relief in the Caribbean, fostering stronger regional partnerships and aiding communities in rebuilding and resilience.
