Kingston, Jamaica – Royal is synonymous with grace and brilliance, so it is not surprising that veteran Jamaican record producer Thug Chemist’s Royal Plus Riddim is number four on a popular reggae chart.
The seven-track compilation, released less than a year ago, boasts an impressive lineup:
Pashon – “Trim Trim Trim”
Jahvante Campbell – “Cry Peace”
Rasta Blacspade – “Love Over All Things”
Madona – “Blend and Mend Again”
Itrujah – “Mi Nuh Waah See Yu”
Racquel Sellers – “Paradise”
Jah Brandish – “World Crisis”
According to Thug Chemist, “Nothing will ever surprise me about Royal Plus Riddim. The production is good, so too is the lyrical content, which is authentic reggae. The riddim track was laid by veterans, including Aston ‘Family Man’ Barrett and saxophonist Dean Fraser.”
Each song’s lyrical content stands out. For example, Jahvante Campbell’s “Cry Peace” carries a universal message, while Pashon’s “Trim Trim Trim” continues to be a trendsetter with its controversial line about the ongoing discrimination against the wearing of locks. Blacspade’s “Love Over All Things” reminds us that humanity is the key to a better world for everyone.
“Promotion and marketing are also important. As such, we try to have a good presence in parts of Africa, mainly Gambia, Kenya, and Senegal. In Europe, the riddim is attracting a lot of listenership in Germany and Japan, where festivals are held. Social media has helped with regular postings and video clips. The Royal Plus Riddim is distributed on all platforms, including Spotify,” Thug Chemist shares.
