MoBay United take over JPL lead after 4-0 win over Molynes

ST JAMES, Jamaica — Former champions Montego Bay United (MBU) are the new leaders of the Jamaica Premier League after hammering Molynes United 4-0 in their game played at the Montego Bay Sports Complex on Wednesday evening.

Shaniel Thomas scored twice for MBU who were winning a third straight game and shot up to 12 points from five games, two points more than Cavalier who have played four games with Portmore United and Waterhouse both on nine points, followed by Mt Pleasant FA and Harbour View, both on seven points each, rounding out the top six.

There were also wins for Waterhouse and Portmore United while Arnett Gardens and Mt Pleasant FA ended in a 1-1 draw.

Two games were postponed because of rain and waterlogged fields- Dunbeholden FC vs Tivoli Gardens FC and Racing United FC vs Cavalier FC.

At Catherine Hall, Thomas took his tally on the season to three with strikes in the 25th and 59th minutes after Owayne Gordon had given MBU the lead from the penalty spot in the 23rd minute.

Substitute Brian Brown also got on the scoresheet in the 74th minute.

Molynes United, who are in 12th place, missed a chance of slowing MBU when they were awarded a penalty in the 70th minute, but MBU’s goalkeeper Aaron Enill saved Jason Wright’s spot kick.

Portmore United ended Harbour View’s three-game unbeaten run, beating them 2-1 at Compound with Shaquwell Henry scoring the winning goal in the 74th minute.

Tedj Bryan gave Portmore the lead as early as the second minute before Rohan Brown pulled the home team level in the 60th minute.

Waterhouse came from a goal down to beat Vere United 2-1 with a double from Atapharoy Bygrave in the 18th and 41st minutes. Dayne Ewen’s seventh minute goal had given Vere United the lead.

Arnett Gardens ended Mt Pleasant FA’s winning start, holding them to a 1-1 draw. Kimani Arbouine gave Arnett Gardens the lead in the 12th minute but Kimoni Bailey snatched a point for Mt Pleasant, scoring in the 42nd minute.

Chapelton Maroons beat Humble Lion 2-0 in the Clarendon derby with goals from Demari Deacon in the 35th minute and Gawain Austin in the 45th minute.
