TORONTO, ON — The Board of Directors of the Saint Lucia Tourism Authority (SLTA) has announced the appointment of Mr. Louis Lewis as Chief Executive Officer, effective October 1, 2024. Mr. Lewis previously served as CEO and Director of Tourism at the Saint Lucia Tourist Board (SLTB) for a nine-year period before its rebranding to the SLTA in 2017.

During his earlier tenure, Mr. Lewis played a key role in enhancing Saint Lucia’s global reputation. His leadership resulted in the strengthening of the organization’s brand, an increase in airlift capacity, and a boost in demand for Saint Lucia as a top tourist destination. He is also credited with raising the profile of the Saint Lucia Jazz & Arts Festival to international prominence.

In the last five years, Mr. Lewis served as the CEO of the Tobago Tourism Agency Limited (TTAL), where he introduced innovative marketing strategies and formed strategic partnerships that significantly increased visitor numbers and strengthened Tobago’s global tourism standing.

Mr. Lewis holds an MBA in General Management and a Bachelor of Science in Economics from the University of the West Indies. He is also a certified Project Management Professional (PMP) and has completed advanced training in Tourism Destination Management at George Washington University, alongside various programs with the International Monetary Fund and the US Federal Reserve.

Reflecting on his new appointment, Mr. Lewis stated, “I am honored to lead the esteemed Saint Lucia Tourism Authority. This position allows me to return to my roots, and I am eager to bring my professional experience, resources, and networks to a dynamic team. My focus will be on deepening our connection to the tourism trade, enhancing our destination’s appeal, and enriching the visitor experience. This appointment offers me a deep sense of personal fulfillment, as it enables me to give back to my homeland through the vital industry of tourism. Together, we can turn challenges into opportunities and continue to elevate Saint Lucia’s standing as a premier global destination.”

Thaddeus M. Antoine, Chairman of the Saint Lucia Tourism Authority, expressed confidence in Mr. Lewis’s leadership, noting, “We are excited to welcome Louis back to the helm. His extensive experience and proven track record make him the ideal leader for our next phase of tourism development. We are confident in his ability to navigate the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.”

Antoine also extended gratitude to the outgoing CEO, Lorine Charles-St. Jules, for her pivotal contributions during her tenure. Under her leadership, the SLTA successfully steered Saint Lucia through a challenging recovery period in the wake of the global pandemic. During this time, the destination secured thirteen major awards, revitalized the diaspora marketing strategy through the Lucian Links Program, and integrated more cultural elements into the island’s marketing efforts, leaving a lasting impact on Saint Lucia’s tourism industry.

Mr. Lewis’s appointment comes at a significant time as global tourism undergoes rapid change. With a focus on high-profile events, international marketing, and strategic partnerships, including a collaboration with Puma® and Saint Lucia’s Olympic Champion, Julien Alfred, the SLTA is poised for future growth.

As CEO, Mr. Lewis will oversee all aspects of the SLTA’s operations, with a mission to position Saint Lucia as a preferred destination for high-net-worth travelers, eco-tourism enthusiasts, and adventure seekers. His leadership will focus on expanding the island’s reach in both traditional and emerging markets.
