Los Angeles, CA – The Ovahness 2.0 event, recognized as the West Coast’s largest House and Ballroom celebration, is set to make history by being the first event held at the Black Lives Matter Creator House in Los Angeles. Hosted by REACH LA, this three-day celebration will take place from October 24 to 26, 2024, bringing together over 150 prominent figures from the global House and Ballroom scene to promote community-driven growth and leadership within the vibrant ballroom culture.

The event will be led by well-known figures such as Twiggy Pucci Garcon, a writer, director, and Emmy-nominated producer from the acclaimed show Pose, and Jamari Marc Jacobs, star of HBO’s Legendary. The festivities kick off with the New Era Reloaded KiKi Ball, a high-energy competition aimed at setting a celebratory tone for the weekend.

On October 25, the highlight of the event, the Ovahness Leadership Summit, will take place. This summit is designed specifically for members of the International House and Ballroom Community. Attendees will have the opportunity to engage in workshops, listen to powerful speeches, and participate in intimate family discussions aimed at empowering the community and enhancing collective strength.

“Ballroom culture was born from the creativity and resilience of the Black and Latinx LGBTQ+ communities to provide a safe haven for those seeking family and self-expression,” stated Greg Wilson, co-founder of Ovahness and COO at REACH LA. “Our leadership summit allows us to continue this legacy by fostering an environment where ballroom community members can directly learn from one another. The Black Lives Matter Creator House—a symbol of equality, justice, and identity—brings an even deeper meaning to this occasion. We’re incredibly grateful that they’d entrust us with their space.”

The weekend will culminate on October 26 with the Notorious Ball, hosted by Jamari Marc Jacobs. Participants will showcase their talents in various categories, competing for cash prizes and the prestigious title of legendary status.

Cicley Gay, Chairwoman of The Black Lives Matter Global Network Board, emphasized the significance of the event, stating, “REACH LA’s service to both the Black and Latinx LGBTQ+ communities is a powerful reminder of the importance of safe spaces where queer culture and community empowerment can thrive. Together, we are creating a legacy that ensures our artistry is not only celebrated but protected in the fight for justice and equity.”

Ovahness is organized by REACH LA, a nonprofit organization that has been dedicated to supporting LGBTQ+ youth of color for over three decades. This year, the event is funded by the CDC’s Ending the HIV Epidemic Grant and the LA County Department of Public Health.

“Thanks to our generous partners, we can uplift our community and continue to propel the House and Ballroom community forward,” said Miguel Bujanda, CEO of REACH LA.
