The island’s Foreign Minister, Senator the Honourable Kamina Johnson Smith, lauded the swift and generous assistance from bilateral partners, the Jamaican Diaspora, and the global community, describing it as a testament to Jamaica’s strong international relationships.

“The Government and people of Jamaica are thankful for the solidarity expressed and the rapid response from our international partners,” Minister Johnson Smith stated. “This support will be crucial to our efforts to restore normalcy and rebuild our communities impacted by Hurricane Beryl. The assistance will provide immediate relief as well as reinforce our longer-term resilience building.”

The island has already received offers ranging from disaster assessment teams and emergency personal kits to water purification systems, humanitarian food relief, and emergency shelters.

Minister Johnson Smith also expressed solidarity with other Caribbean nations affected by Hurricane Beryl, including Barbados, Grenada, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, and the Cayman Islands. “We extend our heartfelt support to the governments and people of these nations as they too recover from this disaster,” she said.

CARICOM Heads of Government have pledged their support to the affected countries, a gesture warmly acknowledged by the Jamaican government.

The Government of Jamaica remains committed to working closely with international bodies and bilateral partners to ensure that recovery initiatives are implemented promptly and effectively, helping to build a more resilient future for the island nation.
