Hon. Kamina Johnson Smith Applauds Special ACP Summit for Addressing Key Challenges

Kingston, JamaicaJamaica’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, the Honourable Kamina Johnson Smith, praised the Special Summit of the Bureau of the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS) for its significant strides in addressing challenges faced by the organization. The summit, which brought together Angola, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Kenya, Jamaica, Botswana, Vanuatu, and other member states, was held to discuss crucial issues and map out a clear path forward for the organization.

Taking to social media on September 25, 2024, Minister Johnson Smith extended her gratitude to President João Lourenço of Angola for presiding over the summit and commended the Secretary-General for his commitment to advancing the mandates set out during the 117th Council of Ministers. “We thank President Lourenço for presiding and the SG for committing to pursue the mandates agreed in the 117th Council of Ministers which I had the privilege to chair,” Johnson Smith wrote.

Minister Johnson Smith also highlighted her interaction with the Democratic Republic of Congo’s Minister of Planning, who now serves as the Chair of the Council of Ministers. She expressed her delight at the opportunity to engage with her DRC counterpart in advancing the collective goals of the OACPS.

The summit focused on fostering collaboration and ensuring that the organization remains focused on its objectives, particularly in areas such as sustainable development, trade, and global cooperation. Key outcomes from the discussions are expected to shape the future direction of the OACPS, helping to address pressing challenges faced by member states across the African, Caribbean, and Pacific regions.
