Heather Virgo Sponsors CSEC students

Kingston, JamaicaJamaican born US- based record producer Heather Virgo, will be sponsoring five students to resit mathematics  in the recent Caribbean Secondary School Certificate (CSEC) examinations.

One such student who got a range four has collected the funds. The others will before the end of this month.

This comes on the heels of reports from CSEC directors that only thirty-six percent of the region’s students managed to obtain the acceptable pass grades (1 to 111). These grades are important in qualifying for jobs and móving on to tertiary education.

According to Virgo, CEO, Hit Melody Records, “this is a worrying look for not only Jamaica but the entire Caribbean.
“Mathematics is a very important subject needed in all aspect of life; The more passes, the better for all of us.

“I will be assisting and encouraging other Jamaicans to make similar contribution through community-based organizations which are able to manage, not only the funds, but the progress of these students.”

Virgo adds that, “more emphasis must be made on preparation, including marathons”
She believes education is everybody’s business whether or not we have students in schools.
“This is  not only the responsibility of the schools, but parents need to play a greater role, as well as  our churches.”
