Introducing Marcus Garvey United: A Team for the Diaspora, Backed by Vision Newspaper and CatRadio

St. Catherine, Jamaica — As the St. Catherine Major League season nears its dramatic conclusion, one team is capturing hearts and headlines across the island and beyond: Marcus Garvey United. With a playoff berth in sight and the pressure mounting, Vision Newspaper proudly launches Garvey Grounds, a new weekly column dedicated to tracking the journey of this powerful, purposeful club.

Marcus Garvey United is proudly sponsored by Vision Newspaper, Vision Caribbean TV, and CatRadio. Together, we’re standing behind a team that represents something far greater than football — a team for Jamaica, and for the global Black diaspora.

Whether you’re cheering from Spanish Town or tuning in from Toronto, this is your team.

A Team Fueled by Purpose

Founded in the spirit of the Honourable Marcus Mosiah Garvey, the club was built on the pillars of leadership, unity, and cultural pride. As the regular season winds down, the squad is chasing a Top 4 finish — and showing exactly why it deserves to be in the mix for championship contention.

Head Coach Norman Hudson is guiding a balanced and focused team built on passion, discipline, and a relentless work ethic. Standout players this season include:

  • Romone Small – The creative engine in midfield, Small has been the spark behind many of Marcus Garvey’s key attacking moves, combining vision, technical skill, and leadership.
  • Prince Mathew – A dynamic and disciplined right back, Mathew has locked down the flanks while adding width and pace in the transition game.
  • Romaine Hedman – A midfield general, Hedman has anchored the center of the park with intelligence and intensity, keeping the team calm under pressure.

These players, and the team as a whole, are carrying the weight of a message much bigger than sport: that Black excellence deserves a global stage.

The Vision for Squire Field

Although no site has been finalized, plans are underway for the future development of Squire Field — the stadium that will one day serve as Marcus Garvey United’s official home. Once built, Squire Field will be more than a pitch. It will be a place of culture, community, and celebration — a symbol of Jamaican excellence for generations to come.

From concept to construction, we’ll bring you updates as this vision comes to life.

📰 Garvey Grounds appears every Monday in Vision Newspaper, bringing you exclusive coverage of Marcus Garvey United — including match results, player profiles, community features, and their journey through the playoffs.

📻 Proudly supported by Vision Caribbean TV and CatRadio.
