Toronto, ON – The Canadian government has unveiled a landmark initiative aimed at bolstering mental health support for youth nationwide. Budget 2024 allocates $500 million over five years to establish the Youth Mental Health Fund (YMHF), marking a pivotal step in addressing the critical mental health needs of young Canadians.
Under the leadership of Honourable Ya’ara Saks, Minister of Mental Health and Addictions and Associate Minister of Health, the YMHF seeks to enhance mental health services and resources accessible to youth across diverse communities. A public online consultation, launched on June 24th and running until July 31st, 2024, invites input from Canadians nationwide. Participants, including young people, families, academics, Indigenous organizations, and community groups, are encouraged to share their perspectives on where mental health needs are most urgent and how the YMHF can make the greatest impact.

When young people succeed, Canada thrives.” This initiative reflects a commitment to harnessing varied insights to shape effective mental health policies and initiatives.
The YMHF aims to foster collaboration among stakeholders to ensure that resources are targeted where they are most needed, fostering a resilient and supportive environment for youth across the country. With Canada’s youth mental health in focus, the consultation period represents a crucial opportunity for Canadians to contribute to shaping the future of mental health support systems.
