Winnipeg, Manitoba – Black Film Space Manitoba has announced the highly anticipated release of its latest documentary, Relationship Remix, set to premiere exclusively on CBC Gem on February 14, 2025. Produced by Chris Sharpe, this groundbreaking film explores the evolving landscape of love and diversity, with a focus on Canada’s fastest-growing demographic—mixed-race couples.

Dedicated to fostering inclusive storytelling, Black Film Space Manitoba continues its mission to amplify underrepresented voices across the Canadian prairies and beyond. Through the powerful medium of film, music, and art, the organization strives to inspire meaningful connections and break down cultural barriers. Relationship Remix exemplifies this vision by celebrating the transformative power of love in today’s diverse world.

The documentary provides an intimate look into the lives of five couples from Manitoba in mixed-race relationships. Through heartfelt interviews and candid storytelling, Relationship Remix navigates the cultural complexities, traditions, and societal expectations that shape their experiences. Among the featured narratives is the compelling story of a Jamaican and Pakistani couple who have been married for 18 years while raising four children. Their journey, along with those of other couples, highlights how love, resilience, and understanding can overcome societal divisions and cultural differences.

Beyond personal stories, the documentary also delves into how elements such as food, in-laws, and music influence relationships, offering an insightful perspective on love’s endurance amid the pressures of everyday life in Western Canada.

Complementing the film is an original soundtrack, Relationship Remix: The Album, produced by Chris Sharpe, Jay Evans (Sons 2 The Grave), Fresh Kils, and Serj Bhatti. Featuring seven culturally infused songs inspired by the couples’ backgrounds, the album was produced by Motto Studios and brings together an impressive roster of Canadian artists, including Rukus 45, Crizelyn, Jay Evans, J-Raj, Primo, MC Quota, Tiago Vasuez, and Black Lantern. The music serves as an auditory extension of the documentary’s themes, capturing the rich complexity of the relationships it celebrates.

Black Film Space Manitoba extends gratitude to its partners and funders for their support in bringing this project to life. Contributors include 47 Filmworks, CBC, CBC Gem, Canadian, Manitoba Film & Music, Canada Media Fund, Rogers Group of Funds, Basketball Manitoba, Sport Manitoba, Ozanna Event Rentals, FF Glam Makeovers, and La Scala.

Audiences are encouraged to mark their calendars for February 14, 2025, and tune in to CBC Gem for the premiere of Relationship Remix. This compelling documentary promises to offer a fresh and profound look at love in all its forms, encouraging viewers to embrace diversity and envision a more inclusive society.
