Morgan Heritage is a Grammy-winning Jamaican reggae band formed in 1994 by five children of legendary reggae artist Denroy Morgan: Peter “Peetah” Morgan, Una Morgan, Roy “Gramps” Morgan, Nakhamyah “Lukes” Morgan, and Memmalatel “Mr. Mojo” Morgan.

Known as the “Royal Family of Reggae,” they blend traditional reggae with elements of R&B, hip-hop, and dancehall, and are celebrated for their powerful live performances and socially conscious lyrics.

Career Highlights

  • Debut & Early Work: Their first album Miracles (1994) leaned more toward pop, but they soon shifted to a roots reggae style with albums like Protect Us Jah (1997) and Don’t Haffi Dread (1999)
  • Grammy Recognition: Their 2015 album Strictly Roots won the Grammy for Best Reggae Album in 2016. They followed up with Avrakedabra (2017), which earned another Grammy nomination and win in 2019
  • Solo Projects: Members have pursued solo careers—Gramps Morgan released Two Sides of My Heart and Reggae Music Lives, while Peetah Morgan and Mr. Mojo also released solo work

Recent Developments

Tragically, lead singer Peter “Peetah” Morgan passed away in February 2024 at the age of 46

. His death was mourned widely, including by Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness, who called it a “colossal loss” for reggae music
