Bay-C Pays Tribute to Women in Dancehall with “Dancehall Queens”
Written by on November 21, 2024
Kingston, Jamaica – Internationally renowned recording artist Bay-C has released a groundbreaking new track, Dancehall Queens, which celebrates the beauty, talent, and influence of female dancehall artists throughout the genre’s history. Known for his work as a member of the legendary group T.O.K. and as a solo artist, Bay-C brings a fresh perspective to dancehall with this tribute that avoids the objectification and derogatory language often criticized in the genre.
Dancehall Queens stands out as a 100% tribute track, free of lewd or disrespectful remarks, making it a clean and empowering anthem suitable for airplay everywhere. While Bay-C describes the women as the “sexiest,” the song remains tasteful, focusing on glorifying their contributions rather than exploiting their image.
The track is a remix of Kehlani, a hip-hop tribute to R&B artist Kehlani by rapper Jordan Adentunjii. Bay-C adds his signature dancehall and reggae flair, creating a freestyle refix that blends originality with homage. The song was mixed and mastered by YRush of Zip 103FM, who has fully endorsed the project.
Prominent dancehall artist D’Angel, mentioned in the song, was present during its recording and has publicly supported the release. Other artists, including Posh Morris, Davianah, and Renee 6:30, have praised the track on social media, further amplifying its positive reception.
Since its release on October 24 via the Bombrush TV YouTube channel, the response has been overwhelmingly positive. “It’s been getting crazy response,” Bay-C shared, noting the encouraging feedback from fans and industry insiders alike.
Dancehall Queens is not just a song but a statement, offering a fresh narrative in dancehall that highlights and respects the contributions of women in the genre.
