JFF hopes to partner with IPL, JCF to secure vehicles at National Stadium matches

KINGSTON, Jamaica— The Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) says it will engage with Independence Park Limited (IPL) and the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) to see if arrangements can be made for future matches to secure vehicles parked outside of the National Stadium’s main parking area.

The JFF made the disclosure in a news release on Tuesday, after it was made aware of videos circulating online which shows several cars with broken windows and other damage, which allegedly occurred during Monday’s match between the Reggae Boyz and Honduras.

The football federation described the situation as disturbing, as it would have dampened the Reggae Boyz’s achievement of qualifying for the quarter finals of the CONCACAF Nations League.

“At a time when the nation should be celebrating this qualification a few persons have sought to mute the good feeling with selfish and illegal motives,” the JFF said.

It added that on seeing the video, an investigation was done to ascertain where the incident took place, and it was revealed that the vehicles were damaged in the open areas across from the National Stadium main parking lot.

“It is important to note that the JFF had organised with the JCF to secure all the vehicles in the official parking space at the Stadium,” JFF said.

“While the JFF has no direct control and responsibility for security at the general car park or areas outside of the stadium property, we will engage with the IPL and police to see what can be done, as we want everyone to enjoy the matches incident free,” the federation added.

The JFF further advised patrons to use the main parking area at the National Stadium, which is operated by IPL, as lighting and security are provided.

“If you choose to park away from the stadium ensure that it is in a secure area,” JFF further warned.

The next match at the National Stadium is set for mid-November. The Reggae Boyz’s opponent for next month’s match is to be determined.
